April 28, 2007 found many labor representatives at the CT State Capital to honor those who have died or been injured on their jobs and those who have become ill as a direct result of their job. The hour-long ceremony was poignant with special rememberances paid to the 28 workers who died twenty years ago in the L'Ambience Plaza collapse in Bridgeport, CT, April 23, 1987.
Many guest speakers shared their impressions and concerns with the assembled group, including John Mastropietro, Chairman of the Connecticut Workers' Compensation Commission. Chairman Mastropietro asked that we take his job away from him and make him happy. All speakers were in agreement on the need to enforce safety laws and prevent workplace injuries.
