WORKER MEMORIAL DAY

Posted On: Apr 03, 2008 (09:36:01)
April 28 2008 at Noon - Join the Connecticut AFL-CIO when it breaks ground for a permanent memorial to those workers who have been injured or killed when working or as a result of work-related illness.

April 28 became a Day of Recognition in the State of Connecticut in early 1990s. It was organized labor's response to the terrible tragedy at L'Ambiance Plaza in Bridgeport.  That day is now recognized across the Country by affiliates of the National AFL-CIO.  This year's theme is Good Jobs. Safe Jobs. FOR ALL!

For the past 10 years, the Connecticut AFL-CIO Health and Safety Committee has been sponsoring golf tournaments as a fund raiser for a permanent memorial.  That goal has come close enough so that plans can go forward to erect that monument which will be situated in Bushnell Park in front of the State Capitol. Ground Breaking will take place this year.

Come to the Capitol on April 28 and join in the remembrance.

If you prefer early morning - or you happen to live in Southeast Connecticut - the Southeast Connecticut Central Labor Council will hold its annual Worker Memorial Day ceremonies at 6:00 AM.  For directions, please contact us.
